What does a trader actually do?

A trader is a person who buys and sells on financial markets — stocks, currencies, gold, indices — and tries to profit from the difference between the buying and selling price.

It sounds simple, but in practice it is not the same as buying a stock and forgetting about it. A trader does not wait for years. They read charts, recognize patterns, enter a trade and exit when their system says so — sometimes the same day, sometimes a few days later.

It is a profession. Like any other, it requires tools, knowledge, discipline, and time to learn.

THE DIFFERENCE EVERYONE CONFUSES

Investing is not the same as trading

We often hear "I invest in stocks" and "I trade" as if they are the same thing. They are not. Here is the difference in one sentence each.

Both professions are legitimate. Both make money in the market. We focus on the second one — we create traders.
